Challenge
Due to the exponential growth of the business, the limitations of the data center and its high costs, ATM began looking for another solution. After some performance problems, there was no doubt that they needed a more robust, faster, secure and affordable solution.
ATM also wanted to reduce the number of hours spent managing their entire infrastructure, thus reducing operating costs.
In addition, ATM wanted to reduce the cost to maintain the infrastructure, while increasing their operations performance.
Why AWS and Magic Beans?
After Magic Beans completed the migration phase with ATM, there was a need for ATM to request Magic Beans services as a Managed Service Provider (MSP). The purpose was to control infrastructure costs as well as support and infrastructure monitoring. ATM needed continued monitoring on performance, usage and standards consistently in order to identify opportunities to optimize costs, improve performance and make good use of the latest AWS tools.
ATM needed help with long-term optimization, to manage costs and purchasing strategies and to ensure that they were paying for the right kind of services. From a technical point of view, Magic Beans helped ATM migrate all their on-premises servers to AWS in order to increase performance, security, reliability and reduce costs in infrastructure.
In its Managed Services, Magic Beans provides access to a monitoring system, thus avoiding additional costs for customers in acquiring and implementing their own monitoring and reporting systems, and guarantees 24x7x365 monitoring of resources, providing a single point of contact for all occurrences, with defined SLAs.
Solution
Before migration, we used AWS Application Discovery Service to gather key information about ATM's environment, including resource utilization and application dependencies. This informed the migration strategy and potential modernization options.
ATM chose an 'as-is/lift & shift' migration to the cloud. We optimized EC2 instances based on usage and tailored EBS volumes to their needs. An AWS VPN site-to-site connection was set up for secure access, and AWS Backup Plans were configured for daily snapshots with a 30-day retention.
Post-migration, we revamped ATM's infrastructure by assessing applications and creating a roadmap with dedicated AWS accounts for enhanced security and management. We used Terraform for Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to streamline deployment and minimize errors.
Magic Beans focuses on delivering secure, cost-effective AWS solutions. Our operational excellence includes automation, performance efficiency, and disaster recovery plans. We continuously monitor and optimize ATM’s infrastructure while holding regular meetings to keep them informed and supported.

ATM's strategy, following the successful migration of their workload to AWS, involves sustaining their partnership with Magic Beans. Their overarching plan includes both the modernization of their existing workloads and the development of future applications on AWS in collaboration with Magic Beans. To address their current AWS infrastructure, ATM has enlisted the expertise of the Managed Services
Department within Magic Beans to oversee its maintenance, primarily due to their limited AWS knowledge.
